I have no conflicts of interest. I am not a builder, a contractor, a plumber, an electrician, or a carpenter. I will not offer any contracting work, repairs, or services for your home, nor do I have any distant cousins or behind-the-scenes business partners to whom I will refer you. In fact, the State of Virginia's Code of Ethics for Home Inspectors does not allow me to make referrals period.
I believe in honesty in life and business. I don't have a glib sales pitch. I'm not the "cheapest". Home inspection is a serious business and I am serious about building and operating it in a professional manner. And most importantly, I work for my clients.
So, who is Stuart Brooks and what qualifications does he have to inspect my home?
I grew up in residential construction. I had the opportunity to learn at an early age the right way to build a house. I was brought up with tools in my hands and I did some of everything from foundation to roof. I have continued to perform the majority of remodeling and improvements on my own properties I'm always keeping up with the latest products and methods. I never stop being amazed at finding what passes for good construction practice and the "built to code" mentality.
I have an extensive background in construction, inspection, engineering, business management, and public relations. This is the basis for an ideal home inspection mind-set that includes:
- A demand for professional ethics, accuracy, and courtesy
- An eye for detail
- A solid discipline-of-process
- A bulldog tenacity for investigation or troubleshooting
- Respect for the client
- A "Care About What You Do and How You Do It" work ethic.
Education
My formal education started with Civil Engineering at VA Tech, followed by Electronics/Electrical Technology at Germanna Community College, and continued to Computer Science at the University of Mary Washington. And, I must complete at least 24 hours of continuing education every year just for home inspection.

* The National Home Inspector Exam
* The NACHI certification exam

I am NEHA-NRPP certified to perform Radon Test and Analysis (NRPP #104556RT)
LICENSING
The Commonwealth of Virginia does not have a license requirement for home inspectors. I, and other inspectors in the state are working to qualify home inspectors and standardize the home inspection process.
Most Recent Pre-Home Inspection Work
I worked as a government contractor in the U.S. Navy Ship Survivability Program at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren Virginia where I performed electro-mechanical and software engineering for a number of NAVY embedded system development projects including Chemical-Biological Weapons detection and protection. I was a co-applicant on two patent applications for chemical agent detectors. Want more? I can show you a 6-page resume if you really want.
