I'm NOT the cheapest guy in town. The service you receive reflects the pricing. A top-grade inspection with top-grade customer service costs more than average and certainly more than the new guy just starting out. Plus I accept major credit cards and checks.
The BASE price of standard home inspections ranges from $295 for homes with an area* of 1500 square feet or less up to $750 for homes as large as 7000 SF. Larger and upper scale homes start at 0.125% of the listing price of the home. That's $1.25 per thousand dollars. Just think, the realty-broker commissions are typically up to 48 times that much.

Avoid Price Shopping: Home inspection fees vary widely. The price of a quality inspection generally falls between $300 and $500. Lower fees should be regarded with suspicion, as they often identify those who are new to the business or who do not spend sufficient time performing the inspection. A home is the most expensive commodity you are likely to purchase in a lifetime. One defect missed by your inspector could cost 100 times what you save with a bargain inspection. The best method of price shopping is to shop for quality.
